It's not a good comparison. Cam Newton plays quarterback, and athletic ability is not the absolute requirement for a good quarterback. In fact, Peyton Manning (and many quarterbacks), the guy who beat him last night at Super Bowl, isn't very athletic at all (they won't try to run or jump). In fact, Manning is almost 40 yrs old. The most important requirements for a good quarterback are to see the whole picture (attack & all around himself), make good judgements and throw the ball well. Not good dashing or jumping abilities. LBJ played wide receiver when he was in high school, not quarterback (that's why he has developed excellent leaping ability). Good athletic ability sometimes helps (quarterback run or avoid being sacked), but other times can distract quarterback's attention (more choices to choose from). Newton didn't play well at all last night, and neither did Manning. It was the defense that won the game. Defense is even more important in american football than basketball. The game MVP is Von Miller, a defensive player. In the past 3 super bowls, 2 of the MVPs were won by defensive players. However, the word "defense" here is somewhat misleading, because some of the defensive players are acutally attacking the opposing team's quarterback, while other defensive players are guarding the wide receivers and runner. ...
